Keeping warm and well this winter

Author: Matt Neal 09/11/2016

Winter is a busy time for us, as we promote the help offered by our Affordable Warmth service. We're out and about in the community, attending busy flu clinics at doctors' surgeries, having stands at information fairs with Age UK and carers groups, meeting with local community groups, and providing talks and training on how to alleviate fuel poverty and ensure residents are warm and well through the winter.

As winter progresses, the cold weather lingers on… Our Affordable Warmth service is available throughout the year, not only providing residents with advice on how to keep cosy with sustainable energy bills, but also referring people on to our trusted partners, making it as easy as possible to:

  • Get loft and cavity wall insulation.
  • Get an income maximisation check.
  • Switch energy supplier or tariff.

If you’re a resident of Oxfordshire or Buckinghamshire who’s struggling with the rising cost of energy bills, call our helpline:

0800 107 0044

If this isn’t for you, please pass on the number to someone else you feel would benefit from our service, and do them a favour this Winter.

Listen to some of our Affordable Warmth Helpline winter advice broadcasts on BBC Radio Oxford:

  1. Are your benefits up-to-date?

  2. How to keep your house warm.

  3. Controlling your radiators and closing your curtains.

  4. How the Affordable Warmth Helpline can help you.

  5. Is oil your main heating fuel? How to fill up your tank for less this winter.

For further information about how a cold home can affect your health, please see the NHS Choices Keep Warm, Keep Well web page.

We’re constantly working on ways to improve our Affordable Warmth service and, as the funding changes, new services can become available. Therefore, even if you've used the helpline previously, it’s worth making contact again to see how else we might be able to assist: 0800 107 0044.
