Energiesprong project manager (housing)

Title: Energiesprong project manager (housing)
Reports to: Head of Energiesprong UK market development team (UK-MDT)

Salary: Competitive; 0.6 FTE (3 days per week); Up to 14 months' contract

To develop and drive solutions for housing providers to invest in performance-assured deep retrofits as part of the Energiesprong UK programme. The main purpose of this role is to support social housing providers in their delivery of early Energiesprong demonstration properties as part of the Interreg NWE E=0 project, and to broaden the learning into the housing organisations of the wider Energiesprong UK partnership. This will include:

  • Working with housing providers on stock assessment and selection for Energiesprong demonstration properties, including initial scaling volumes
  • Developing the business case for housing providers’ specific requirements (based on the existing Energiesprong UK business case) and support the housing providers in reaching an investment decision
  • Supporting the housing providers in organising the procurement of retrofits based on performance based criteria instead of pre-defined solutions
  • Supporting the housing providers in (competitive) dialogue with prospective solution providers to contract the Energiesprong demonstrators
  • Supporting the housing providers throughout the implementation process (this may include engagement with industry as well as tenants)
  • Instigating and supporting change in the housing providers’ own organisational transformation to make Energiesprong the new norm in their asset management

The main purpose of this role is to coordinate and support social housing providers in the delivery of early Energiesprong demonstration properties. There is also a requirement to knowledge share across the wider Energiesprong UK partnership, instigating and supporting change in the housing providers’ own organisational transformation to make Energiesprong the new norm in their asset management. This is essentially a delivery support role to enable the housing partner to complete every stage of the journey and includes:

  1. Overall coordination of all the Energiesprong retrofit projects from inception to completion.
  2. Working with housing providers on stock assessment and selection for Energiesprong demonstration properties, including working out what potential there is to take to scale (no requirement for highly technical skills as this is about stock selection not technical stock assessment/surveying).
  3. Developing the business case for housing providers’ specific requirements – using the existing Energiesprong UK business mode – and support the housing providers in reaching an investment decision (no requirement for deep financing knowledge; this is not about detailed financial engineering).
  4. Guiding and supporting the housing providers in organising the procurement of retrofits to the Energiesprong performance standard.
  5. Supporting the housing providers throughout the implementation process including engagement and selection with solution providers/contractors.
  6. Assisting the housing provider with tenant engagement and evaluation.
  7. Plan, report on and facilitate delivery of two EU funded projects.

Households and Communities Project Officer

Over the winter months this role will primarily assist in the delivery of our Affordable Warmth and Healthy Homes projects with the aims of reducing the number of people in fuel poverty, preventing them from getting into fuel poverty initially and improving health outcomes. Much of this work is based in our office in Milton Keynes, but this can involve attendance at events at locations across Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire or further afield and outside of normal working hours.

There will also be an opportunity to work on other projects delivered by the team such as:-

  1. Our Carbon Offset fund, which supports domestic cutting of carbon emissions
  2. www.yougen.co.uk which promotes the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions
  3. www.energyenvoys.org.uk  which forms our Duke of Edinburgh programme and our European projects, including www.energiesprong.uk

Energiesprong aims to make buying of a high-quality refurbishment of a house as easy as buying a car or phone. We want someone that can redesign the whole process of procurement and make it feel like a purchase of a product. We have two problems on how the world works today and we are looking for somebody that can help us solve this:

  1. Buying any retrofit solution can be very complicated
  2. Energiesprong is aiming to broker a volume procurement deal between a group of housing organisations and suppliers.

Energiesprong Supply Chain Developer

The purpose of this role is to develop and drive solutions to encourage industry to invest in the design, development and implementation of net-zero energy retrofits as part of the Energiesprong UK programme. This will include: 

  1. Managing an event series throughout 2018 to showcase the market potential of the Energiesprong model, encourage supply chain collaborations and facilitate solution development;
  2. Challenging industry to develop attractive and investable net zero energy retrofit solutions; implying quick to install, high quality, performance based, and performance guaranteed products at lower costs;
  3. Working with construction companies and their supply chain to facilitate solution design;
  4. Advising industry on the performance-based procurement approach (competitive dialogue) 
and the mandatory long term energy performance warranty backed by an insurance;
  5. Supporting industry in their engagement with housing providers (e.g. feedback/input to the 
selection of first demonstrators/prototypes, initial scaling volumes and mass volume);
  6. Providing support to industry in their own organisational transformation to make 
Energiesprong successful including product quality control and customer focussed delivery processe;
  7. Within construction companies, key relationships will need to be established with technical engineering, manufacturing and commercial teams. Relationships with a range of supply chain companies will need to be developed.

Business Admin Apprentice

This offers an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop their business admin skills by joining our Administration & Operations team.  The Apprentice contribute to the charity’s administrative activities as well as providing support to project delivery teams and on specific projects. The role will be varied and diverse, providing experience in a wide range of administrative areas. As well as interacting with all Foundation staff (currently approximately 20), the Apprentice will come into contact with our high-profile Trustees and Advisory Council members, partners on international projects, young adults pursuing their Duke of Edinburgh Award and members of the public wanting to make their homes warmer and more comfortable. On occasion, the work might involve attendance at events outside normal working hours, in evenings and at weekends, at locations across south and east England.

Volunteering opens up lots of opportunities for acquiring new knowledge, generating ideas and extending professional networks whilst, at the same time, it provides valuable experience in a professional environment. As well as having the specific volunteer vacancies below, we would like to hear from anyone interested in any of the following areas of work:-

  • Visualisation of energy data - tools for making energy and building stock data information more interesting, relevant and accessible.
  • Non-domestic building modelling - the building of tools (based on benchmark models for non-domestic buildings) to facilitate better site energy surveying.
  • Changing the way people engage with buildings - QR codes, NFC chips within buildings that link to information about the building and its services (data, user guidance, videos, maintenance requirements).
  • Web development work - supporting us in the improvement and day-to-day running of our websites such as YouGen, LogPile and SuperHomes.
  • Online tools and calculators - we host our Simple Carbon Calculator and a home energy assessment tool, which we're always looking to improve and update.

Volunteer Project Officer (Energy Envoys)
The role involves supporting the promotion and roll-out of our Energy Envoys volunteering opportunity, which is offered to The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants to complete the Bronze, Silver or Gold volunteering section of their Award. The Volunteer Project Officer will build relationships with schools and centres, raising awareness of the scheme using social media and blogs, and develop opportunities for professionals in the energy efficiency and built environment sectors to mentor Energy Envoys during their volunteering.

The post involves researching and writing content on saving energy and generating energy from renewable sources for the award-winning YouGen website. It also involves administering the site's expert blogger system and contributing to the promotion of the site to both consumers and installers.

Video/Photography Volunteer
The role includes conducting media shoots, editing media and the production of new photographs and videos to bring to life our new citizen engagement website. The post also involves some administration and the better organisation of the photographs we already have and an analysis of who holds the copyright.
