EU Projects and Analysis

Title: EU Projects and Analysis
Reports to: National Energy Foundation Project Manager and Head of Energiesprong UK Market development team
Location: Flexible (option for home-based working). Role(s) require some remote-working at partner premises across the UK. Role(s) may require occasional international travel (mainly NL, FR, BE).

To deliver the requirements for Energiesprong UK under two EU funded projects, Transition Zero (Horizon 2020) and E=0 (Interreg NWE). In addition, the role will provide analysis and support across a range of areas including funding and finance, supply chain development, and housing provider projects. The core element of this role will include:

  • Overall responsibility for delivery of Transition Zero and E=0 deliverables and reports including coordinating the input of key UK and EU Energiesprong market development team members
  • Establishing and maintaining key relationships with EU funders and partners primarily across the UK, FR and NL
  • Oversight of EU monitoring, compliance and reporting

ZEBCat Project Management

Title: ZEBCat Project Management, Housing and Industry Support
Reports to: Energiesprong UK Board
Location: Flexible; requires some meetings in Exeter.

Energiesprong UK (ESUK) is a partner in the Zero Energy Buildings Catalyst (ZEBCat) project which is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund. Energiesprong UK is seeking to appoint a dedicated Project Manager to represent ESUK on the ZEBCat Project Board and to lead the delivery of ESUK’s contribution to the project. This will also include providing support to housing and industry partners in their delivery of the demonstrators. The Project Manager will be accountable to the ESUK Board with delegated authority for the ZEBCat project, including a £30,000 project budget (of which c.£16k remains to be spent) allocated to ESUK.

ESUK is seeking to appoint the Project Manager as soon as feasible and for the entire duration of the project. The following time commitment is envisaged (total of 172 hours):

  • September 2018 – December 2018 (4 months): 48 hours (including 4 Project Board meetings, usually hosted in Exeter – participation via telephone/video call is possible)
  • January 2019 – December 2019 (12 months): 112 hours (including 12 Project Board meetings)
  • January 2020 – March 2020 (3 months): 12 hours (including 1-2 Project Board meetings)

We also have a number of volunteer placements (please see below). Many people have volunteered with us over the years, and have had a very positive and rewarding time. Volunteering opens up lots of opportunities for acquiring new knowledge, generating ideas and extending professional networks whilst, at the same time, it provides valuable experience in a professional environment. As well as having the specific volunteer vacancies below, we would like to hear from anyone interested in any of the following areas of work:-

  • Visualisation of energy data - tools for making energy and building stock data information more interesting, relevant and accessible.
  • Non-domestic building modelling - the building of tools (based on benchmark models for non-domestic buildings) to facilitate better site energy surveying.
  • Changing the way people engage with buildings - QR codes, NFC chips within buildings that link to information about the building and its services (data, user guidance, videos, maintenance requirements).
  • Web development work - supporting us in the improvement and day-to-day running of our websites such as YouGen and SuperHomes.
  • Online tools and calculators - we host our Simple Carbon Calculator and a home energy assessment tool, which we're always looking to improve and update.

Volunteer Project Officer (Energy Envoys)
The role involves supporting the promotion and roll-out of our Energy Envoys volunteering opportunity, which is offered to The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants to complete the Bronze, Silver or Gold volunteering section of their Award. The Volunteer Project Officer will build relationships with schools and centres, raising awareness of the scheme using social media and blogs, and develop opportunities for professionals in the energy efficiency and built environment sectors to mentor Energy Envoys during their volunteering.

Volunteer Content Writer (YouGen)
The post involves researching and writing content on saving energy and generating energy from renewable sources for the award-winning YouGen website. It also involves administering the site's expert blogger system and contributing to the promotion of the site to both consumers and installers.

Video/Photography Volunteer
The role includes conducting media shoots, editing media and the production of new photographs and videos to bring to life our new citizen engagement website. The post also involves some administration and the better organisation of the photographs we already have and an analysis of who holds the copyright.
