Household and Communities Project Officer

The postholder will assist in the delivery of our Affordable Warmth networks and will provide support to other ongoing projects such as our renewable energy portal YouGen, our multi-award-winning Open House network SuperHomes, our internal solid wall insulation project WHISCERS and our European projects, including Energiesprong. We are looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated person with excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will also have an outgoing personality, the ability to engage and inspire the general public and be able to represent the Foundation and its clients at public meetings and events.

Business Admin Apprentice

The postholder will be part of our Administration & Operations team, and will contribute to the charity’s administrative activities as well as providing administrative support to project delivery teams and to specific projects. The role will be varied and diverse, providing experience in a wide range of administrative areas. As well as interacting with all Foundation staff (currently approximately 20), the Apprentice will come into contact with our high-profile Trustees and Advisory Council members, partners on international projects, young adults pursuing their Duke of Edinburgh Award and members of the public wanting to make their homes warmer and more comfortable. On occasion, the work might involve attendance at events outside normal working hours, in evenings and at weekends, at locations across south and east England.

We also have a number of volunteer placements (please see below). Many people have volunteered with us over the years, and have had a very positive and rewarding time. Volunteering opens up lots of opportunities for acquiring new knowledge, generating ideas and extending professional networks whilst, at the same time, it provides valuable experience in a professional environment. As well as having the specific volunteer vacancies below, we would like to hear from anyone interested in any of the following areas of work:-

  • Visualisation of energy data - tools for making energy and building stock data information more interesting, relevant and accessible.
  • Non-domestic building modelling - the building of tools (based on benchmark models for non-domestic buildings) to facilitate better site energy surveying.
  • Changing the way people engage with buildings - QR codes, NFC chips within buildings that link to information about the building and its services (data, user guidance, videos, maintenance requirements).
  • Web development work - supporting us in the improvement and day-to-day running of our websites such as YouGen, LogPile and SuperHomes.
  • Online tools and calculators - we host our Simple Carbon Calculator and a home energy assessment tool, which we're always looking to improve and update.

Volunteer Project Officer (Energy Envoys)
The role involves supporting the promotion and roll-out of our Energy Envoys volunteering opportunity, which is offered to The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants to complete the Bronze, Silver or Gold volunteering section of their Award. The Volunteer Project Officer will build relationships with schools and centres, raising awareness of the scheme using social media and blogs, and develop opportunities for professionals in the energy efficiency and built environment sectors to mentor Energy Envoys during their volunteering.

Volunteer Project Officer (SuperHomes)
This is a three-month work placement. The Volunteer Project Officer will learn how an older home can become an eco home. They will also get hands-on experience of the type of behind-the-scenes coordination required to run a successful national event (SuperHome Open Days) and a popular content-rich website.

Volunteer Content Writer (YouGen)
The post involves researching and writing content on saving energy and generating energy from renewable sources for the award-winning YouGen website. It also involves administering the site's expert blogger system and contributing to the promotion of the site to both consumers and installers.

Video/Photography Volunteer
The role includes conducting media shoots, editing media and the production of new photographs and videos to bring to life our new citizen engagement website. The post also involves some administration and the better organisation of the photographs we already have and an analysis of who holds the copyright.
