E=0 Project Manager (Budgets and Reporting)

Title: Project Manager (Budgets and Reporting) E=0
Reports to: Director of Operations (NEF)
Location: Flexible (option for home-based working)
Role requires some remote-working at partner premises across the UK
Role may require occasional internation travel (mainly NL, FR, BE)
Contract: Up to 14 months' contract (fixed max total days/hours); indicative time allocation (c.1 day/week) with greater time input needed during claim periods (end of June/end of December) and project closure (Mar-May 2019)

To provide budget management and reporting expertise to the Interreg NWE E=0 project. During the final year of the E=0 project, NEF is seeking to appoint a dedicated project manager to work alongside their own project manager. The person will provide additional resource and specialist expertise, in particular to ensure the remaining project activities are delivered within the overall project budget and the reporting to the Interreg NWE secretariat and associated project closure tasks are of high quality.
The E=0 project is one of two European projects currently being delivered by NEF to advance the implementation of net-zero-energy retrofits in the UK, following the Dutch Energiesprong concept.

The Project Manager (Budgets and Reporting) will be responsible for:

  • Budget forecast against grant application (by work packages)
  • Resource allocation within the E=0 team and budget approval for planned activities
  • Budget control against actual expenditure and bi-annual claim submission to the Interreg NWE secretariat (working closely with NEF project manager)
  • Quality control of project deliverables, bi-annual and final reports
  • Project closure, including final claim submission and reporting (project activity end date is 25 February 2019 with subsequent 3 months of project closure)
  • Compliance with EU grant regulations (Interreg NWE)

Business Admin Apprentice

This offers an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop their business admin skills by joining our Administration & Operations team.  The Apprentice contribute to the charity’s administrative activities as well as providing support to project delivery teams and on specific projects. The role will be varied and diverse, providing experience in a wide range of administrative areas. As well as interacting with all Foundation staff (currently approximately 20), the Apprentice will come into contact with our high-profile Trustees and Advisory Council members, partners on international projects, young adults pursuing their Duke of Edinburgh Award and members of the public wanting to make their homes warmer and more comfortable. On occasion, the work might involve attendance at events outside normal working hours, in evenings and at weekends, at locations across south and east England.

Volunteering opens up lots of opportunities for acquiring new knowledge, generating ideas and extending professional networks whilst, at the same time, it provides valuable experience in a professional environment. As well as having the specific volunteer vacancies below, we would like to hear from anyone interested in any of the following areas of work:-

  • Visualisation of energy data - tools for making energy and building stock data information more interesting, relevant and accessible.
  • Non-domestic building modelling - the building of tools (based on benchmark models for non-domestic buildings) to facilitate better site energy surveying.
  • Changing the way people engage with buildings - QR codes, NFC chips within buildings that link to information about the building and its services (data, user guidance, videos, maintenance requirements).
  • Web development work - supporting us in the improvement and day-to-day running of our websites such as YouGen, LogPile and SuperHomes.
  • Online tools and calculators - we host our Simple Carbon Calculator and a home energy assessment tool, which we're always looking to improve and update.

Volunteer Project Officer (Energy Envoys)
The role involves supporting the promotion and roll-out of our Energy Envoys volunteering opportunity, which is offered to The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants to complete the Bronze, Silver or Gold volunteering section of their Award. The Volunteer Project Officer will build relationships with schools and centres, raising awareness of the scheme using social media and blogs, and develop opportunities for professionals in the energy efficiency and built environment sectors to mentor Energy Envoys during their volunteering.

Volunteer Content Writer (YouGen)
The post involves researching and writing content on saving energy and generating energy from renewable sources for the award-winning YouGen website. It also involves administering the site's expert blogger system and contributing to the promotion of the site to both consumers and installers.

Video/Photography Volunteer
The role includes conducting media shoots, editing media and the production of new photographs and videos to bring to life our new citizen engagement website. The post also involves some administration and the better organisation of the photographs we already have and an analysis of who holds the copyright.
