Marketing and Communications Officer 

Title: Marketing and Communications Officer 
Report to: Head of Households and Communities
Location: Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire 
Contract Term:Permanent, (FT or PT for the right candidate) 
Salary:£22,000 to £25,000 per annum

About the role: 

The Households and Communities Team manages a number of on-going projects which help make homes warmer, healthier and more affordable to heat. We have a new opportunity for a creative, innovative and experienced Marcoms officer who will bring their own ideas and enthusiasm to succeed. The focus of this role will be on the dissemination of activities as well as to raise the profile of a number of projects managed by the Households and Communities team and, possibly, NEF more broadly. 

Responsibilities: 

- Write articles and other content for the project websites and other media 
- Creating unique content for the website / press releases and compiling newsletters 
- Manage all social media, including developing campaigns to promote results 
- Drive visitor traffic to project websites. 
- Take responsibility for updating the project websites 
- Track PR outputs and development of new channels 
- Manage customer databases and drive accurate data collection 
- Develop communication strategies (including press and radio campaigns) 
- Monitor and measure the effectiveness of all outputs and recommend new ideas 

About you: 

- At least one to two years’ experience in a similar role 
- Experience of communications, marketing or related activities 
- Social media savvy - Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn - includes running a social media campaign 
- Competent content writer 
- Ability to design leaflets and posters 
- Experience of updating websites built on WordPress and Expression Engine & maintaining databases 
- Familiarity with CRM systems 
- Track record of setting up events desirable

Volunteering opens up lots of opportunities for acquiring new knowledge, generating ideas and extending professional networks whilst, at the same time, it provides valuable experience in a professional environment. As well as having the specific volunteer vacancies below, we would like to hear from anyone interested in any of the following areas of work:-

  • Visualisation of energy data - tools for making energy and building stock data information more interesting, relevant and accessible.
  • Non-domestic building modelling - the building of tools (based on benchmark models for non-domestic buildings) to facilitate better site energy surveying.
  • Changing the way people engage with buildings - QR codes, NFC chips within buildings that link to information about the building and its services (data, user guidance, videos, maintenance requirements).
  • Web development work - supporting us in the improvement and day-to-day running of our websites such as YouGen and SuperHomes.
  • Online tools and calculators - we host our Simple Carbon Calculator and a home energy assessment tool, which we're always looking to improve and update.

Volunteer Project Officer (Energy Envoys)
The role involves supporting the promotion and roll-out of our Energy Envoys volunteering opportunity, which is offered to The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants to complete the Bronze, Silver or Gold volunteering section of their Award. The Volunteer Project Officer will build relationships with schools and centres, raising awareness of the scheme using social media and blogs, and develop opportunities for professionals in the energy efficiency and built environment sectors to mentor Energy Envoys during their volunteering.

Volunteer Content Writer (YouGen)
The post involves researching and writing content on saving energy and generating energy from renewable sources for the award-winning YouGen website. It also involves administering the site's expert blogger system and contributing to the promotion of the site to both consumers and installers.

Video/Photography Volunteer
The role includes conducting media shoots, editing media and the production of new photographs and videos to bring to life our new citizen engagement website. The post also involves some administration and the better organisation of the photographs we already have and an analysis of who holds the copyright.
