Act on CO2

when travelling

How can we travel in the most energy efficient way with the least amount of CO2 emitted?

Small changes for big CO2 savings

With some small free changes to the way you travel - you can save money and reduce the CO2 you are producing. Give it a go........

  1. Change gear in the car when you reach 2500revs per minute in petrol cars and 2000revs per minute in diesel cars to be most fuel efficient
  2. Check you tyre pressure – under inflated tyres by 10% add 1% to fuel consumption.
  3. Speed at 85mph uses approx 25% more fuel than 70mph. Stick to the most efficient speed of 60-65mph.
  4. Stick to the average speed limit as it isn’t much higher than the most efficient speed.
  5. Air conditioning uses 20-25% more fuel so don’t use it.
  6. Remove roof and cycle racks when not in use and they require the vehicle to use more fuel to move
  7. Try car sharing once a week
  8. Plan journeys well to avoid getting lost and using additional fuel
  9. Use your bike or walk short distances – to the shops or work when possible
  10. Before booking a flight in Europe check to see if you can get their by train and consider the alternative.
