With some small free changes to the way you travel - you can save money and reduce the CO2 you are producing. Give it a go........
- Change gear in the car when you reach 2500revs per minute in petrol cars and 2000revs per minute in diesel cars to be most fuel efficient
- Check you tyre pressure – under inflated tyres by 10% add 1% to fuel consumption.
- Speed at 85mph uses approx 25% more fuel than 70mph. Stick to the most efficient speed of 60-65mph.
- Stick to the average speed limit as it isn’t much higher than the most efficient speed.
- Air conditioning uses 20-25% more fuel so don’t use it.
- Remove roof and cycle racks when not in use and they require the vehicle to use more fuel to move
- Try car sharing once a week
- Plan journeys well to avoid getting lost and using additional fuel
- Use your bike or walk short distances – to the shops or work when possible
- Before booking a flight in Europe check to see if you can get their by train and consider the alternative.
