Savings from Low Energy Lights

There are two adults living in our normal four bedroom house. We already had a few energy efficient light bulbs in some rooms and we were (and still are) good at turning off electrical items when we had finished using them. However in January 2005 we decided to change all of our light bulbs in the house to be energy efficient. You can see for yourself in the graph below the difference it made to our electricity bill. We were amazed at the difference just changing a few light bulbs could make.

  • The average usage from 1997-2004 was 2781 kWh, If you ignore the "blip" in 1999 due to a broken electric cooker the average usage becomes 2702 kWh. In 2005 it dropped by 304 kWh to 2,398 kWh - a reduction of 11.3%.
  • In 2006 it dropped again to 2,290 kWh – a reduction of 15.2%
