How to get a green glow……. |
Over the last year I heard loads about climate change and the fact that we need to reduce the energy we use as individuals and that there are loads of easy ways to do this at home. So I decided to give it a go and bought the 11 low energy light bulbs I needed for all the lights in my house (only 99p each in John Lewis!) If felt very pleased after fitting the bulbs and did happen to point this out to my friends so they know that I’m eco friendly!!
I also started to turn the TV off standby and unplug my mobile charger when I had finished using them along with all the other electrical stuff in the house. I felt quite proud of myself and that I was doing something to reduce the energy I use. After a while these things became a habit and I now turn everything off at the wall without thinking about it or patting myself on the back for being so good!
I didn’t really think about it again until my quarterly electricity bill arrived in my in-box and the tariff had gone down! I live on my own so am on quite a low tariff anyway, but it had been reduced by £4 for the quarter. I couldn’t believe it. It’s not loads of money – but to be honest it wasn’t loads of effort to make the changes either. And as the light bulbs didn’t cost much they would have paid for themselves in just over 8 months as long as I keep turning stuff off at the wall.
Lots of easy wins at little cost financially and without too much time and effort needed – but it left me with a nice green (climate change friendly) glow!!
