Large-scale sustainable energy projects owned and implemented by community-owned organisations can achieve greater energy and carbon savings than individual households acting separately.  Community schemes have the potential to scale up and replicate cost-effectively and make a significant contribution to achieving the UK’s 2050 carbon reduction targets.

However, communities face many practical hurdles in setting up their projects.  These include building community skills and support, paying for technical specialists to prepare feasibility studies, planning applications and business plans as well as raising funding for the capital equipment.

The Communities Fund exists to provide community-owned organisations with finance packages which enable them to overcome the hurdles of getting their green projects off the ground.

Donate to the Communities Fund

The Communities Fund needs your donations to help communities improve their environment and help tackle climate change.  We pool donations and use them to finance projects which cannot obtain commercial funding.  Existing donors include individuals, companies and their employees who have joined together to make significant gifts to the Communities Fund. If you would like to donate to the Communities Fund, please send a cheque payable to “National Energy Foundation Communities Fund” and send it to The National Energy Foundation, The National Energy Centre, Davy Avenue, Knowlhill, Milton Keynes, MK5 8NG.

If you pay income tax and/or capital gains tax, we can reclaim the tax you paid to increase the value of your gift through HMRC's GiftAid scheme. You must pay an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax equal to the tax we reclaim on your donations. Please write on the back of your cheque or provide a separate statement declaring that it is a GiftAid donation, that you pay sufficient tax to cover that which we reclaim and provide your name and home address Our registered charity number is 298951.
