High Energy Bills encourage Companies to use NEF's training
High energy bills are causing organisations to look at innovative and cost-effective ways to reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs with the record high fuel prices. In response, the National Energy Foundation (NEF) have expanded their training programme with additional courses and more options for those wanting a bespoke training package.

Successful Conclusion to Active Roofs project
The National Energy Foundation has successfully finished its participation in the EurActive Roofer project which was designed to improve communication between renewable energy experts and other building trades, especially in photovoltaics (PV) and roofers. As part of the dissemination of the project, the Foundation has created an Active Roofs microsite, run an Active Roofer training course in London and spoken about active roofs to the Electrical Contractors Association.

The National Energy Foundation Endorses The Carbon Trust’s Carbon Reduction Award Scheme
The National Energy Foundation (NEF) welcomes the new campaign launched yesterday by the Carbon Trust, which challenges businesses and the public sector to end so-called ‘greenwash’ by achieving the new “Carbon Trust Standard” certificate – the only way for organisations to prove they are tackling climate change and have made genuine reductions in their carbon emissions.

National Energy Foundation adopts new Climate Pledge Guidelines
What happens when you sign up to a Climate Change Pledge scheme? This question has puzzled consumers keen to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions, but faced with a plethora of different schemes offering sometimes conflicting advice. Now, however, Defra and the Central Office of Information (COI) have issued a Best Practice Guide to Designing and Operating Climate Change Pledge Schemes and the National Energy Foundation has become one of the first organisations to follow its guidelines.

‘Superhomer’ reduces carbon footprint by 60% and receives 2008 Observer Ethical Award
Russell Smith who is part of the Old Home Superhome project, has reduced the carbon footprint of his London House by over 60%, has just picked up the 2008 Observer Ethical Award. This makes two Superhomers who have now won the award as Averil Stedeford also won this Ethical Award, in 2006.

The National Energy Foundation reaches over one Million Shoppers in Climate Challenge Project
The National Energy Foundation believes they have reached over one million people during a two-year Defra funded project. This aimed to educate the public to climate change issues when they were shopping. It involved 1,500 Co-op stores throughout the country and thecentre:mk in Milton Keynes one of the UK’s largest shopping centres.

Building labelling – as easy as A to G
Home Information Packs (HIPs) have already introduced an A-G energy label for homes as part of the EU’s Energy Performance of Buildings directive. On Sunday (6th April), it’s the turn of non-domestic buildings. The Directive requires two types of certificate – the Energy Performance Certificate, which relates to the building structure, and the Display Energy Certificate, which explains how much energy is used in the operation of public buildings.

Geothermal Live! UK’s biggest ground source heat pump show
The Ground Source Heat Pump Association and Mining Communications Ltd, publishers of GeoDrilling International, are organising a major Conference and Exhibition, Geothermal Live!, as part of the GeoDrilling event being held at the East of England Showground, Peterborough on 30th April and 1st May.

Sustainable heating solutions = Successful low-energy building
It's now three years since the National Energy Foundation moved into its purpose built low energy building. It is common enough to read articles about how a sustainable heating system will work before they are switched on, but much rarer to discover how they have worked in practice. Ian Byrne, Deputy Director of the Foundation, recently wrote an article for Sustain magazine looking at how the NEF's low-energy building is faring in practice

NEF seeks views on draft Energy Management Systems Standard
A draft European Standard for Energy Management Systems has just been released by CEN, the European Standards Body, and BSi. This standard is designed to help larger organisations implement documented and effective energy management procedures that should lead to lower energy consumption. The National Energy Foundation is seeking views of those likely to be affected and in particular members of the Energy Efficiency Accreditation Scheme that it manages on behalf of the Carbon Trust.
