A wide variety of new products such as photovoltaic
(PV) systems, solar thermal collectors and small
wind turbines are being introduced into roofs.
The roof thus changes into an Active Roof; it
supplies electricity and hot water and can also
provide daylight and ventilation.
This
seminar will disseminate some of the findings
of the EUR-ACTIVE ROOFer project and the Agenda includes
presentations and discussion on the following
issues:-
- The capatibility of solar systems with roof
coverings
- How different types of PV systems (tile and
panel) can be incorporated into a roof
- Vocational training for roofers and installers
of micro-generation systems
- Health and safety issues related to working
on a roof
- How to design for wind loading & driving
rain
- Siting roof mounted wind turbines to optimise
output
- Addressing concerns about noise and vibration from roof mounted turbines.

This seminar is also aimed at those with a responsibility
for regulating the the work of roofers and installers,
particularly Building Control Officers. It
will also be of interest to those working in the
roofing industry and those installing roof mounted
microgeneration systems. Insurers of buildings
who would like to know more about the implications
of turning a standard roof into an Active Roof
will also find the day of use.
As part
of our CPD programme this course can assist you
in meeting your learning objectives.
Further information about the EUR-ACTIVE
ROOFer project can be found on the project website.
Places
on this seminar are limited to 50 and will be
allocated on a first come, first served basis.

By the end of the day delegates will have gained
a good overview of how PV and solar thermal systems
can be safely and soundly integrated into roofs.
In addition they will learn about the optimal
placing of roof mounted wind turbines and about
training for roofers and installers in incorporating
microgeneration systems into an ACTIVE ROOF.
