Assessment of Renewable Energy Options

(typically 3 - 10 days)

Objectives:
Different renewable options will be compared helping the client to select a
package of appropriate measures that could then form part of an overall
energy strategy. The study should enable the client to then make an informed decision about which options to pursue further.

Renewable Energy Options:
The renewable energy technologies covered by the study will depend on which
are the most applicable to the site, the time available for the work and the
interests of the client. For example: solar water heating, solar photovoltaics, wind turbines, hydro power, biomass fuels (e.g. wood pellets and wood chips for space heating), ground source heat pumps, biofuels for combined heat and power and small scale renewable energy applications. Energy efficiency measures may also be covered if appropriate.

Work Description :
1. Site survey, initial meeting with client:

- establish estimated energy requirements
- discuss preferences and interests of the client
- identify potential locations for renewable installations
- site-specific practical issues
- identify main renewable energy options to be focused on in the study
- identify potential for further energy efficiency measures

2. Summary Report:
To provide information on a range of renewable energy schemes applicable to the site; for example indicative values for the following may be included:

Technical:
- energy that could be generated from on-site renewable energy schemes
- CO2 savings
- estimates of appropriate system sizes
- potential location for installations
- site-specific practical issues

Financial:
- capital costs
- fuel cost savings
- typical payback times

Advice on land use planning and the availability of grants can also be provided.
