If you're getting certain benefits, you might also be able to get a Cold Weather Payment for each seven-day period of very cold weather.

Cold Weather Payment

Payments are made when the local temperature is either recorded as, or forecast to be, an average of zero degrees celsius or below over seven consecutive days.

The Cold Weather Payment scheme starts and finishes on a certain date each year (usually dates in November and March).

Cold Weather Payment - are you eligible?

You might be able to receive a Cold Weather Payment if you're getting:

  • Pension Credit.
  • Income Support.
  • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance.
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).
  • Universal Credit.

Check if your postcode is in an area that is due a Cold Weather Payment.

If you are eligible to receive a Cold Weather Payment, you'll be paid automatically.

If you don't receive a Cold Weather Payment and believe you should, please contact you pension centre or Jobcentre Plus office.
