Phase 1:
On-site consultation
Initially we will discuss with the client the scope of the project, what they are looking to achieve (energy or carbon reduction or both, profile raising, etc) as well as the budget available for improvement and the possible schedule.
On-site survey
The following on-site survey will take place in order to measure the area and volume of the building, assess the building fabric and identify the heating (both space and hot water) requirements as well as electricity requirements for lights and appliances. This will help us assess the heat loss of the building and its energy requirements. Heating and electricity bills will also be assessed.
Following this initial assessment, we will identify any site opportunities and constraints within the boundaries of the site that may have an impact on any technologies recommended (south facing roof, listed building, shading trees, etc).
In addition, we will record user behaviour to determine how a building is used by its occupants and whether savings can be done at that level (a full behaviour change programme can be developed as a separate service, this will be just an assessment to identify potential savings).
Finally, some areas may need further investigation, for example whether the building is in a smoke control zone. We will investigate
any
un-clear information off-site in order to have a complete picture of the potential of the building.
Alternatively, in order to save on the cost of the service, this first on-site consultation and survey phase can be done remotely on the condition that the client can provide all the information necessary for the desktop assessment.
